Just Sit and Do It-- sometimes he's so to the point.

Because sometimes I get so wrapped up in doing everything "right" I forget to do it.

So I took those cutie pie little pictures I found from two years ago, and wrote a little message on them.

It's simple and important. ; )

Just because it's simple doesn't mean it's not important--so why do we so often forget to do it?
It's a little like gathering to read the Bible. Why do we feel that is such a big deal? Perhaps for you, this is not the case. However, for me it is a new reality, one I've only only grasped within the past year and it has effected everything in my life:

Stop making a big deal of everything -- quit trying to make everything perfect--

just sit.and.do.it.

What am I so involved in that it is causing me to be uninvolved in the most important things?

I can be involved in good things. The things I am doing might not be bad, they may even be things given to me from God--life changing, family altering things. However, if the way I manage those tasks take me away from the King? Away from fellowship with Him?

I feel I could go on and on about this, talking about all the things God has taught me. But the truth is -- God only asked me that question and He left the rest up to me. Isn't it funny how God teaches? It's usually just a simple thought that challenges us.

Today, may you be challenged in each and every area of your life. From the time you sit and what you do while you sit, to conversations you have with your Heavenly Father. May you walk with Him as you shop for good deals at the grocery store and while you wipe tears on cheeks. From mending hearts, to loving enemies.

May you walk with him {dance with Him} in this crazy journey of life.

A nugget for you today, my friends. May this video challenge you and touch your heart in a way only God can do.

[pause the music?]

Sometimes Love Looks a Little Different

Loading him on that plane, my mind reeling over and over again.

"I never thought love would look like this."

There I stood watching someone not even mine, load up and fly away. I turn around, starting to prepare my mind for the long drive home, waiting with anticipation his return to us. Knowing, the next time, that plane won't lead back to us.

I suppose, I never thought I'd worry about grades, shop and plan for prom, volunteer for school activities; monitor mainstream music, talk about girls; sit in the gym every Friday night to cheer, or pray so hard--for anyone who wasn't mine.

He loads that plane and we know they're in there, the g.tribe tradition, but he doesn't know--

little love notes slipped in his bag,
one for each day,
one from everyone.

When he discovers them, he sends us a little bit of joy:

Maybe it was the five hour layover, saying goodbye to all the new friends, or the last letter that made it become a reality to him-- He'll go one day and not return.

Full love.

Only weeks before, I say to him as he walks out the door, "Much love, have a good day."

He turns to me and says,  "No, not much love... full love. besides, isn't that what Jesus says? Full and total love?"

Totally surprised and shocked, I reply, "Yes, I suppose so."

I remember sitting there in the classroom several years ago listening to, Stephanie Freed talk about rescuing girls in Cambodia from sex trafficking. Strangely, it wasn't that part of her story teaching me that day, my heart strings had already been gripped by that. No, this day it was a different part of her story.

"Sometimes our girls try to run away. Sometimes, they kick, scream, and try to run back into that old life of tragedy. That's all they know, that's where they are comfortable."

I remember thinking, "What? They fight? They scream? But they've been given hope, a gift. They've been given, love. Jesus.

She went on to say, "Yes, it's true. They are still children and it isn't always easy. That is the life they've always known. Dangerous or not, it's what they know, what they're comfortable in."

Not everything about having him is comfortable. On a totally different scale than Stephanie, yes. But still, it's different. It's hard. It stretches us. It's invading. Sometimes, it's bad.

Then I ask myself,

"But, why does it always have to be easy?"

Sometimes, they wave the branches at you in life, don't they? They wave them, big and strong, saying-- good.job, so.proud, well.done, even things like, you.are.loved.

Sound familiar friends?
How about Hosanna?
"Most of the crowd spread their garments on the road ahead of him, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.  Jesus was in the center of the procession, and the people all around him were shouting, “Praise God for the Son of David!  Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Praise God in highest heaven!”

Matthew 21:8-9 NLT

A week later, it all changes, doesn't it?

"What is your verdict?” “Guilty!” they shouted. “He deserves to die!” Then they began to spit in Jesus’ face and beat him with their fists. And some slapped him, jeering, “Prophesy to us, you Messiah! Who hit you that time?”

Matthew 26:66
Love looked a little different, didn't it?

As he sits on our sofa, reading the journey to the cross, in his own language, my mind is once again in amazement.
"No matter what the language, what the tongue, if I can understand it or not, it all ends the same doesn't it, friends?

With the cross, with death and then, life."
Makes me question,

Perhaps, the example of something so uncomfortable, calls us to a life of uncomfortable.{?}

and then, of course, I wonder again...

"Perhaps this is where we find true life, in the un.comfortable?"

What way could love look a little different for you today, friends? Could it look like a glass of iced tea with that person you really don't care for but you know-- they.just.need.to.talk? Could it look like that stinky sofa where she sits, wishing for someone to sit and chat a while? Could it look like a check book or perhaps a spare room or maybe even just a bed?

As we journey to the cross this week, friends, may you live totally, fully, and crazy uncomfortable following, stumbling, and trying so hard to keep up with His footsteps.

"Hosanna!"

Fellowship Begins...when I sit {funny thing is, so does learning.}

I hope I never forget, he learned the names of Jesus' disciples there at the table.

Wearing Superman underwear, eating crackers, with Always Save paper towels and baby wipes on the table next to him.

How often do we underestimate what we can teach and where we can do it? So much curriculum, so much planning.

Perhaps sometimes, fellowship can end where planning begins.

I wonder if sometimes, fellowship ends when the standards of school begin.

I wonder if fellowship ends when the "googling" begins.

Google: What are the signs of a learning disability?
Google: What should my child know by the age of...

Maybe I Google more than I get on my knees?

Like, really get on my knees.

Maybe I set standards before I get on my knees?

And perhaps,

I plan,
  and plan,
    and plan;

when really...

they.just.want.me.to.sit.

"..These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.  Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up..." Deuteronomy 6:6-7
And we all know, they love to sit and talk for a bit.

Superman underwear and all. ; )

Have an extra second in your day?
Take a little peek at my sweet guy: Taking Time to Breathe--{because}Jesus Loves You

Loves,

When You Just Need To Die--everyday.

“But some people refuse to die. Don’t they?

They just endlessly cling to their ego and their false self and they keep propping up this particular version of themselves.

Trusting in their own efforts to somehow, someday be good enough.
And as they do that, the life is just drained right out of them.”

Are you holding so tightly to your life that you are actually losing it?
If so, in what ways?
If the tomato talk is too much for you to follow at the first, skip to 5:00, then sit and soak it up. =)

If the tomato talk is too much for you to follow at the first, skip to 5:00, then sit and soak it up. =)

“Do you ever find yourself telling a story in a particular way to make yourself look better?

Like you emphasize certain details and you leave other details out.
It’s like you twist the story ever so slightly in your favor.
For many of us, this impulse is so deep within us, we’ve been doing this for so long,
we’re not even aware that we’re doing it.”

Why do we try to make ourselves look better than what we actually are?
“Jesus invites that part of us to die.

The part of us that always has to be right.
The part of us that always has to be better.
The part of us that always has to look good.”
-Rob Bell ( I know you may not like him, but he loves Jesus too. {for whoever is not against us is for us. Mark 4:9} )

May we never forget, it is Jesus that saves. Not what we do or how we do it, let alone, who sees us do it. It is only Jesus.

Sweet, Sweet, Jesus.

It Looks a Little Like This... just a little video from our home

So many of you have asked what Eleos looks like so i thought I'd take my phone around my dim lit home, moving too quickly for you to see what it "looks like" hmmmm, maybe we'll take some more video on our route today ; )

It starts with green beans and ends with muddy feet. it's just a normal day at the Gibson home, except we're cooking a little extra.

It's no big deal =)

A Painful Memory--The Story of Grace.

I can still remember how it felt. Walking from the gym into that bathroom stall, I felt like my world was crashing down.

Only four months into my seventeenth year, no place to call home and a baby on the way. I can still remember my thoughts.

I had just walked out of the Gym. I knew that was where I could find him, doing what he loved most, playing the game.

It was getting close, my stomach would soon show. Having taking vows to never speak to each other again, I felt I needed to share just one last thing. Finding him alone in there, I pleaded--

"You have to tell her."

His mom.

I don't know what I really expected in that moment. Two scared kids, thinking we had all the answers. Perhaps I thought he'd turn to me and say, "It's all going to be alright."

He replies, "I don't have to do anything."

Remembering my reaction, I can still feel that empty feeling; I felt like I would die.

Walking away, head hung in shame, world spinning. I found the nearest shelter, a place to hide.

It was the nearest place.

It was empty, nobody around. Falling faintly against the new green wall, sliding down with my hands pressing against my face, tears falling heavily against my cheeks. It was there, in that shameful place, between two walls with a door that latched, the question that haunted me: "Who do you think you are?"

I can remember the pain I felt that day.

"You have no home."
"You are a young girl whose future is gone."
"You are a joke."
"You are hated."
"You are unwanted."

"Look what you've done."

I remember shouting, "I know, I know!" "What am I thinking?!" "Who do I think I am?!" "I cannot do this, I just need to die."

It was there that I found grace.

I can remember it, even this day. I can remember what that broken, humbling moment felt like. I can still feel the scars. Me, just a young girl, alone. No comfort of a home to go to, no family to walk with through the hardest thing I had ever come to. No known hope, no known future, only grace.

I can still remember my sweet, sweet Jesus, "Yes. Yes, you can do this, you are not alone and I will help you."

Grace was there and I was unaware. Unaware of who He even was, who he
really was.

This thought I cannot escape--Grace is everywhere.

We still cross the bridge. The same bridge we passed two or three times per year, usually on holidays traveling home to visit family out of obligation. Now we pass it each week, sometimes more than once, but always on Thursdays. We cross it at the end of a long list of names, delivering sweet meals to lonely people in the town I grew up in.

Passing over that bridge, it all comes back to me--my heart song for so many years, "Please God, never send us here." Crossing that bridge during those years of visits home, I would ask Daniel, "Where is the one place you hope God never sends you?"

He would always reply: "Home."

Now, I cross that bridge just outside of our little town and think, "I can't beleive He brought me home." Then the thought comes again, Grace is everywhere.

Looking around I ponder. Where is this grace?

There is nothing like being in your hometown. NOTHING. There is nothing like seeing people you shared your life with, throwing it all away. Seeing people you loved, some you gave your heart to, some you thought you'd love forever, dying inside, missing grace. It's there, they are just unaware.

There is nothing like something as simple as going to the restroom at a basketball game and walking into a place where you once wept and wanted to die. A place you thought you would never come back to.

It makes me look around and ask myself, what grace am I unaware of now

I look over at the kitchen table at two teenage boys and ask myself-- Is grace the boy who comes to dinner every chance he can just to sit and be a part of a family? A boy who would never sit here, pray here, share the highs and lows of his day here, if we had not said yes to take in someone from another country? Besides, if it weren't for Angus, we wouldn't even know that boy.

Or what about the girl, the one at the high-school who shared her love for the people of Africa with Angus? Who, when hearing her excitement came home to share with us what she said and now I am able to talk with her about Katie and her amazing work in Uganda.  Or was it her parents, who thanked me tonight. Is that grace? Grace that a stranger encouraged their daughter?

Perhaps grace is sitting up into late hours of the night, listening to the terrible, frightening things someone from Taiwan has endured for the sake of pleasing "other gods" A conversation that makes me very afraid of the reality of hell. A conversation that makes my heart break even more for the ones who have never heard of the goodness of our sweet Jesus.

Then, of course, there is grace in his excitement as he starts to see a glimpse of what grace really is.

Could it be in the little old lady hugging me saying, "Thank you for making time for me." Is all the cost, all the time, all the preparation that goes into that one meal? Is that grace?

Is grace my girls going to visit with the grandparents who nobody wants to visit? Sitting and learning how to crochet? Listening closely to all the stories from the past wondering why their real grandchildren can't find the time to stop by, is that grace?

What about a bunch of home-school  families gathering together for a field trip, some on their very first one, even after several years of homeschooling? Could it be grace? Just knowing it's because you finally said, "OK,  I'll do it.

Is grace taking tonight's meal to a bunch of high-school basketball boys in the town you hoped you'd never return to, watching your husband, the grace filled love of your life, who once said, "I don't have to do anything" coach one of your little graces on the court of his favorite game, during half time, remembering a time when a conversation in that same gym sent you away ready to die? (yes, read it again... s.l.o.w and insert your graces)

I Look At Emmyn and Cannot Imagine.

You know, we talk about God coming down in the form of a man, Jesus. But as I look at Emmyn, I just cannot imagine... holding a savior in my arms. When her son looked at her even when he was only days old; did he look at her with compassion or with dependency? After all, he was... fully God, fully man.

Awesome.

And with this Christmas wish is missed
The point I could convey
If only I could find the words to say to let You know how much You've touched my life
Because here is where You're finding me, in the exact same place as New Year's eve
And from a lack of my persistency
We're less than half as close as I want to be

And the first time
That You opened Your eyes did You realize that You would be my Savior
And the first breath that left Your lips
Did You know that it would change this world forever

And so this Christmas I'll compare the things I felt in prior years
To what this midnight made so clear
That You have come to meet me here

To look back and think that
This baby would one day save me
In the hope that what You did
That you were born so I might live
To look back and think that
This baby would one day save me

And I, I celebrate the day
That You were born to die
So I could one day pray for You to save my life

Taking Time To Breathe

Yes, I am still here, thanks to all who have questioned =)

I have been taking time to adjust to our new household size and all that comes with that. Striving towards being a good daughter to my Father, wife to my husband, and mother to my children. God has been quieting my soul and teaching me many sweet things, of which I hope to share soon.

But as for now, I thought I would leave you with a little sweetness I caught last week.

Enjoy!

Maurice Bradley...

...is the name of a guy I picked up the other day. Normally, I don't mention the people I help but this guy had a great story to be shared. Well, they all have a great story... this man's just so happened to also be on the internet. He had just been released from the Christian County Jail and was headed to Springfield to catch a bus home to St. Louis. While driving he shared his life with me and told me about this video he had made to help bring awareness of the effects of heroin. http://hairkuttthemovie.com/

He is the one talking on the clip. It's great to see he is trying to make a difference. If you have Netflix, you should rent it. You could also pray for Maurice, that he would continue to make good choices, giving God the glory.

What Have YOU Seen?

I am sitting still
I think of Angelique
her mothers voice over me
And the bullets in the wall where it fell silent
And on a thousandth hill, I think of Albertine
there in her eyes what I don't see with my own
Rwanda

now that I have seen, I am responsible
Faith without deeds is dead
now that I have held you in my own arms, I cannot let go till you are

I am on a plane across a distant sea
But I carry you in me
and the dust on, the dust on, the dust on my feet
Rwanda

I will tell the world, I will tell them where I've been
I will keep my word
I will tell them Albertine

I am on a stage, a thousand eyes on me
I will tell them, Albertine
I will tell them, Albertine

Family Fun Nights

Thursdays are our Family Fun Nights. Just simple Family Fun is all we do. Sometimes we play a board game, go to the park, make milk shakes and watch a movie, something like that. It is also the night the kids get to redeem their stars for treasure.

Last night Alli had basketball practice. Daniel took her while Jordan, Judah and I stayed home making homemade chicken noodle soup. After Daniel and Alli returned home we all ate dinner. Towards the end of dinner Daniel showed us this video:

(I'm like a video junkie lately, sorry!)

After the video Daniel talked to us about it. After the kids asked questions and stuff we all cleaned up the kitchen and sat up an Ice Cream Shope. The kids placed their order for ice cream, carried their cones happily downstairs where we played a game.

It was a sweet night.

Just Two Broken People

This is the song my hubby sent me today. His email was simple and good:

I really love you!

I hope you know that.

Here is a song for you, my bride.

When the sky is falling from above you
And the wind is raging from the coast
And you want someone who truly loves you
I will be the one who loves you the most

When the masquerades in burlesque falls
But come too ordinary to boast
You complain about the rain and hurting calls
I will be the one who loves you the most
I will be the one who loves you the most

When the women with their stolen graces
Don't invite you to play host
To their daughters with fake faces
I will be the one who loves you the most

When all the debutants desert you
All the doorways are all closed
And all the harlequins who've hurt you
I will be the one who loves you the most
I will be the one who loves you the most

When you'll suit a sneering swank beside you
And leave you hollow like a ghost
And you just want somebody to come find you
I will be the one who loves you the most
I will be the one who loves you the most

When you forgive your imperfections
And you've auctioned all your clothes
And you look to see your true reflection
You will be the one who loves you the most
You will be the one who loves you the most
You will be the one who loves you the most

Let it be for no other reason but to bring glory to the Most High. Who took two broken people and made them whole. And then... allowed them to do his work and be his disciples, AMAZING!
